The scene is Castle Tilea, a fortified manor house on the Wenelian coast and residence of the de Maris family. Tilea is situated close by a natural harbour, and a small village.
Clovis de Maris first came to Tilea many years ago and immediately saw its potential. It is conveniently placed between Esrolia and Handara, with plentiful natural resources and a natural harbour to act as refuge for shipping from storms or piratical attack.
Clovis has good relations with the local Ditali warlords, many of whom he fought alongside when he served Greymane as a mercenary captain. Tilea and its environs were gifted to him then and now Clovis has chosen to establish it as his home. The de Maris family owns two ships, and has part ownership of several more. He is associated with a Handaran league of merchants that owns valuable trading concessions in Esrolia and Heortland.
Clovis has a wife, Rowena, and has two children, Arwen and Frederick.
