I guess I have to include the picture of Chairman Mao looking
over Tiannmen Square, so let's get it out of the way right now. |
I really wanted to go to Beihai Park, so we went, and Simon and
Zhao went on a boat trip |
... while I explored Beihai Park |
This was really way off the beaten track, behind some restaurants. |
We went to a Chinese Tea House, and saw some opera
... and acrobatics |
This is in the Forbidden City. The central piece of the first
section of this staircase is one huge lump of marble, that was dragged half
way across China by pouring water in front of it.
You see these two characters all over the place. The near one
is feeding a cub under her left paw, while the far one holds the world under
his right paw. At least, that's what Roger Moore told me.
The chap on the end is riding on a chicken, and is protecting
the building from being struck by lightning. Seriously.
You really don't need to read this caption.
This is the old summer palace, which we burned down (the British,
that is, not me and Simon!)
On the train journey from Beijing to Hohhot, I saw this church
out of the window.
Simon woke up a couple of hours later. |
On a day trip from Hohhot to the grasslands, we went through
the town that I saw the church in, and the stairs in the distance lead up
to it. We didn't go up - do you think I'm crazy?
This lady really wanted to take a 'photo of me, so I took one
back.
I was walking down this gulley.
... with Simon and Zhao
We rode horses back up to the top.
Then we went to the desert, and stopped on the way to have an
arguement, and also buy some fruit.
The cable car journey across to the desert
This is my new auntie and uncle, and sister-in-law in the background.
Mmm, food. Check out the melon basket.
Oh, and Simon and Zhao got married.
They have huge bugs in China.
And lots of watermelons.
And at least one hand-powered tricycle.
And another huge bug, this one much scarier than the other one,
but fortunately it was further away from where we were sleeping by a few
hundred miles.
I flew back. Can you work out where this city is? A CD of all my
China pictures to the first person to work it out.
